LEICESTER will have two riders going for gold in the 2024 Attis Insurance Sports Division British Final at Belle Vue on Saturday.
Richard Lawson and Craig Cook represent the Watling JCB Lions in the prestigious event with the national title at stake along with the Wild Card position for the British Grand Prix at Cardiff in August.
Both riders have enjoyed strong performances in the event in the past, with Cook taking the title in 2017 having finished second in the previous three years – and he has since finished on the rostrum in third place on three subsequent occasions.
Lawson, meanwhile, has routinely been in and around top six contention and he had his best result in the competition in 2020 when he finished runner-up to Rory Schlein in one of the few events to take place during the Covid-wrecked campaign.
Competition will be fierce at the National Speedway Stadium with Grand Prix trio Robert Lambert, Dan Bewley and Tai Woffinden all taking part, and should one of those riders win the meeting the Wild Card at Cardiff will transfer to the next best placed competitor.
